Mardi Gras Casino is located in Nitro, West Virginia. This is 14 miles west of Charleston.
It was originally a greyhound track before becoming a full-service casino. It was previously known as Tri-State Racetrack. In addition to live racing, there is also a racebook that offers off-track betting.
A sportsbook was available on the property but is currently temporarily suspended.
Mardi Gras Casino has a New Orleans theme. The theming includes showgirls on the casino floor, as well as beads for players. The casino decorations all feel like a throwback to Bourbon Street in The Big Easy.
There is a lounge at Mardi Gras Casino. It features weekend lounge acts. There are 150 hotel rooms on the property. There are four restaurants.
Mardi Gras sports betting
Mardi Gras Casino opened a sportsbook in December 2018. It didn’t last long, however, as it was then forced to close down on March 6, 2019.
A contract dispute between Delaware North, the casino’s owner, and its WV sports betting partner, Miomni left the casino without a sportsbook. Now, Delaware North is in search of a new partner to supply sports betting services to the property.
Before it closed down, the sportsbook was located on the main casino floor. It is next to the off-track betting parlor. There is an attached sports bar. It will likely return to this location once the casino is able to accept bets again.
Sports available at the time included football, baseball, hockey, basketball, golf, tennis, auto racing, soccer, boxing, and mixed martial arts. Straight bets, parlays, teasers, props, and futures are all accepted.
The Miomni partnership also brought BetLucky Sportsbook, a sports betting app to the Mountain State. It was the first of its kind in West Virginia. Unfortunately, it is also a casualty of the contract dispute and will not likely return.
Mardi Gras casino games
There are 30 table games and 1,000 slots at Mardi Gras Casino. There are 250 unique slot and video poker titles. All slots are ticket-in/ticket-out.
Table games at Mardi Gras Casino include double-zero roulette, blackjack, craps, Mississippi Stud, Three Card Poker, Criss Cross Poker and Big 6. The minimum bet is generally $5 at these games. The maximum bet ranges from $300 to $1,000.
There are two types of blackjack at Mardi Gras Casino. The lowest limit tables start at $5 and go up to $15. These are eight-deck tables that pay 3-2 on a blackjack. Players may double down before and after splitting. Surrender and re-split aces are not permitted. The dealer stands on all 17s. These tables have a maximum bet of $300.
Players looking for higher limit action will want to check out tables with at least a $25 minimum. These tables have a $1,000 maximum bet. These tables have the same rules as the smaller stake ones, except that the high limit games use six decks.
Craps tables at Mardi Gras Casino permit 3-4-5 times odds. This means that players may bet three times the line bet on a 4 or 10, four times on 5 or 9 and five times on a 6 or 8.
Mardi Gras poker
There are 24 poker tables at Mardi Gras Casino. It opens at 10 a.m. daily. Cash games include 1/2 and 2/5 No Limit Hold’em, 1/2 Pot Limit Omaha and 2/4 Fixed Limit Hold’em.
There is a No Limit Hold’em tournament every day at 7 p.m., except on Fridays, when there is no tournament and Saturdays when the tournament is at 1 p.m. The buy-in is $40 on Thursdays, $50 on Mondays, $70 on Wednesdays, $75 on Sundays, $80 on Tuesdays and $100 on Saturdays.
Mardi Gras players club
Mardi Gras Casino offers new players $10 in free slot play just for signing up. Guests can double that to $20 by providing an email address. There are daily promotions that include cash drawings and prizes.
Mardi Gras restaurants
There are four restaurants at Mardi Gras Casino. They range from fast food served on the casino floor to finer dining establishments.
The French Quarter Restaurant
The French Quarter Restaurant is the fine dining option at Mardi Gras Casino. There is a high-end appetizer menu, as well as soups, salads, steaks, salmon, trout, lobster, pork chops and pasta. Sides are served a la carte.
The Grill at First Turn
This dining option is casual. It serves American staple foods. This includes salads, burgers, fries, soups, sandwiches and fried seafood. There is a wide drink menu, as well as a dessert one.
Café Orleans
Café Orleans is on the casino floor. It serves cheesesteaks, chicken cheesesteaks, reubens and other sandwiches. There are also tacos, grilled cheese, chicken tenders and hot dogs on the menu.
Other activities
Louie’s is a lounge at Mardi Gras Casino. There is a musical act there every weekend night. It includes dueling pianos, jazz, oldies and Motown favorites. Doors open at 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Live music is performed from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Casual attire is welcome.

Mardi Gras hotel
There are 150 hotel rooms at Mardi Gras Casino. Rates start at $149 per night. This price applies to a Deluxe room with one king or two queens. These rooms come equipped with a 40-inch television, chair with ottoman, work desk, two telephones, in-room safe, iron, ironing board and clock radio with a docking station.
There is a little variance in prices between weeknights and weekends. Many weekends are only $10 more expensive than a weeknight, including on holiday weekends.
There is a Junior Suite available to guests. This room is $60 more per night. There are 12 of these rooms on the property. They come with two queen beds and a 47-inch television. The other amenities found I the Deluxe rooms are also found here.
